What inspired you to read the book?
Last year I began reading the Brandon Sanderson “Way of Kings” series and immediately became a fan
of the author. This story, although it is a standalone novel, still occurs within the same book universe as
the other series.
What you learned from reading the book?
This book has taught me the importance of seeing and understanding other peoples point of view. If we
look at history most wars have been fought over a different belief. I have learned that not because one
has been taught one thing versus another means that there is one right or one wrong. Our society
constantly defines what “right” is and what is “expected” of oneself. However it is important as human
beings to accept that there are many other views that are also accepted and can also be right. This story
makes you see that sometimes we limit our scope to what we want to see through a narrow black and
white lens rather that what can be seen within the full spectrum of colors.
How the book will influence your life and prepare for success upon release?
I believe that reading anything influences your life in a positive way. I get asked if reading fantasy
novels is helping me become a better person. I always answer yes! I think that by learning new
vocabulary, seeing different styles of writing, reading books from new authors or even unusual
subjects, it all helps you grow mentally and open your minds creativity. This book has given me a great
story that I enjoyed and given me many valuable lessons about judging people, seeing other points of
view and the importance of believing in family and friendship.
What was the most inspiring quote?
“Like it or not, you are a part of the workings of this kingdom – and you produce effects even if you
stay in bed. If you do nothing then the problems are as much your fault as if you had instigated them” –
